Okolie vs Billam-Smith: The Bournemouth Vitality Stadium will increase its capacity for the world title match between Lawrence Okolie and Chris Billam-Smith on 27 May after the local government approved a permit for 15,000 seats.
It implies that the WBO cruiserweight fight will be seen by the biggest non-football crowd ever at the stadium.
The venue typically seats 11,300 spectators for Premier League football games involving AFC Bournemouth, but BOXXER has been granted permission by Bournemouth officials to increase the seating capacity for hometown favourite Billam-Smith’s title fight, making it the largest boxing event to ever take place in the south coast region.
“Wow! I appreciate everyone who purchased a ticket to come to see the event and support me,” said Billam-Smith.
“The BCP Council, AFC Bournemouth, and BOXXER are to be commended for organising such a significant event for the community. I’ve never been more thrilled.”
The increased seating capacity will not only enable thousands more people to witness this historic occasion live, but it will also generate additional revenue, with local charities scheduled to receive a percentage of the event’s proceeds.
The founder and CEO of BOXXER, Ben-Shalom, declared: “Bournemouth has shown to be a sleeping giant of the British boxing scene. We were really taken aback on our first visit; the audience was incredible, and BOXXER workers still talk fondly about the occasion.
“The crowds at both of our Bournemouth events have been incredible, and I can’t wait to see how things will turn out on May 27 when the main event boxers take the stage at the Vitality Stadium.
“Joe Ashford-Ellis is an incredibly lucky partner for us in Bournemouth. Because he wanted to do something for the local youth, he was so enthusiastic about getting us here and has done all in his power to make these activities happen.
“As we get ready to host the largest non-football sports event in Bournemouth history, we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better partner.”
