Usyk vs Fury: The Oleksandr Usyk team does not anticipate that any obligations will prevent the Ukrainian from competing against Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
The promoter of Filip Hrgovic announced that the Croatian will be the undisputed champion for the IBF belt, one of Usyk’s three championships.
But Usyk hopes to challenge WBC champion, Tyson Fury, for all four of the main heavyweight titles.
His promoter notified Sky Sports that the undisputed fight with Fury will be his next fight.
The Ukrainian promoter Alex Krassyuk said of Hrgovic’s demand for a forced shot at Usyk: “At this time, I can assume that it will not influence the undisputed anyhow.”
On December 3 at Tottenham Hotspur, Fury challenges Derek Chisora for the championship. The Briton’s agent, Bob Arum of Top Rank, has stated that he won’t sign anything until after that match, but he is in discussions with Usyk.
The Ukrainian has made it plain that the bout against Fury is the only one in which he is interested.
An event like that would presumably be hosted abroad.
According to Krassyuk, “We anticipate his next fight to be for the undisputed, thus it will probably take place in the Middle East.”
Coming to the UK?
Promoters in the UK are interested in having Usyk defend his unified belts there.
“We believe that the UK should host his fights. Oleksandr is someone we’d love to work with, and that’s something we’re talking about “CEO and founder of BOXXER, promoter Ben-Shalom, spoke to Sky Sports.
He continued, “He wants to compete in the UK and he knows that the UK is probably a very strong market.
“We’ve seen him so frequently over here; we’d love to have him over in the UK so he can really develop his message and fan base and be on the home team. Due to the fact that he has consistently come over here, whether it was [against Tony] Bellew or [Derek] Chisora, and he has always been the underdog fighter.
“I believe that during the past several years, British fans have really embraced Oleksandr Usyk and his persona, and all he has accomplished in Ukraine is encouraging as well. I firmly believe the UK can support that. In the UK, he may become a star. He can fight in his own country for the first time, and he’s currently the undisputed world champion and one of the biggest stars in the sport.”
