Women’s T20 World Cup: Alice Capsey, a teenage batting sensation, makes her comeback as England names its 15-player roster for the highly anticipated Women’s T20 World Cup, which begins on February 10. After breaking her collarbone during England’s limited-overs series in the Caribbean last month, it briefly appeared as though Capsey may not make the team.
Jon Lewis, the head coach of England, has encouraged the young player despite the fact that she is still recovering from her injury and stated that team management wants to give her every opportunity to participate in the championship game in South Africa.
The announcement of the World Cup roster is always thrilling, and this bunch is really talented. Jon Lewis was reported by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “We saw a lot of good things in the West Indies, a lot of improvement in changing our mindset as a squad, and I’m excited to see how we carry that into the challenge of a global tournament.”
“To win tournaments, everyone on the team must collectively embrace the moment and enjoy the journey. We hope Alice is fit enough. She has worked extremely hard with the medical staff to get to this point, and we’ll give her every chance. But as we saw in the Caribbean, the depth of talent and skill in the squad is growing fast.”
Notably, experienced seamer Kate Cross has been recalled by the English selectors for the competition despite having played her last WT20I back in December 2019. Pacer Issy Wong will also be travelling with the reserves.
Australia is expected to defend their title during the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in South Africa from February 10 to 26.
Heather Knight will serve as England’s captain. The former champions are grouped with India, the West Indies, Pakistan, and Ireland in Group B. On February 11, the English squad will face the West Indies at Paarl to open their season.
