T20I Win: Former England captain Charlotte Edwards praised all-rounder Alice Capsey’s performance against Australia women in the third T20I at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Saturday, July 8. Notably, England won the game by five wickets and the three-game series by a score of 2-1.
Edwards praised Capsey, saying she represented a bold generation of young England players. She was great during the match, according to the 43-year-old, noting the all-rounder’s prior performances in The Hundred.
“Alice Capsey is incredible. This is exactly what she does. The younger players in this England team are fearless and unfazed. Alice Capsey had appeared in two Lord’s finals (in The Hundred), so tonight was simply another day for her. It prepares her to play in these venues and perform at this level,” Edwards explained to Sky Sports.
Capsey’s run of form, according to Edwards, is amazing, especially for an 18-year-old. According to the 43-year-old, many girls may be thinking, ‘I want to be the next Alice Capsey,’ after witnessing the teenager’s performance. Notably, she batted magnificently in the third T20I, hitting 46 off 23 balls with four boundaries and two maximums.
“However, for an 18-year-old to come out on the biggest stage after such a strong run is incredible. Everyone was saying,’she’s only scored 17 runs in her last five innings,’ yet she continues to put up those numbers. There are so many girls now who want to play cricket and think to themselves, ‘I want to be the next Alice Capsey’,” the former cricketer remarked.
It’s all about growing better and becoming more consistent in T20 cricket: Capsey
Meanwhile, Capsey remarked that she is still seeking for consistency in the limited-overs format after her hit in the third T20I of the current Women’s Ashes 2023. The 18-year-old, who was named Player of the Match, also stated that she works hard in the nets and has received a lot of encouragement from the coaching staff.
“With T20 cricket, especially the way I play, I’m going to come off sometimes and not other times. It’s just a matter of growing better and becoming more consistent. I’ve been working hard in the nets and have had a lot of support from the coaching staff,” Capsey remarked.
