BAN vs AFG: Afghanistan gained a significant boost recently when talented all-rounder Rashid Khan joined their ODI squad for the forthcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh. It is worth mentioning that both teams will play three one-day internationals (ODIs), followed by two Twenty20 Internationals. The first One-Day International (ODI) is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, July 5 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Bangladesh.
Notably, Rashid Khan was sidelined for the one-off Test against Afghanistan in order to allow him to heal from a lower back ailment. In Rashid’s absence, Afghanistan suffered a humiliating setback against Bangladesh, losing the one-off Test match by 546 runs.
Rashid’s return to the squad for the limited-overs series, on the other hand, would undoubtedly increase their prospects. Reflecting on the situation, ODI captain Hashmatullah Shahidi said about how significant Rashid’s return to the team is.
“Of course, he’s a big man for us (Rashid).” As a captain, I feel extremely secure when he is with us; it’s a good indication for us. He did not play in the Test, but he is now available for the ODI series, and I know he will do good for us,” Cricbuzz reported Hashmatullah Shahidi as stating,
“We learned a lot from the Test game. So we are now fully prepared. We spent the previous 14 days in Abu Dhabi at a camp. So we’re ready for anything that was lacking from the Test. Nonetheless, some ODI players did not make the Test lineup. We have no idea what will happen. We’ve planned for everything,” he continued.
Furthermore, Shahidi pondered on the fact that Bangladesh are a powerful ODI team, and facing them at home may prove to be an even greater challenge for Afghanistan. However, the ODI captain encouraged his team to put up a great performance and recover from the one-off Test setback.
“Bangladesh always performs well at home. They have also performed well in ODIs in recent years. However, we have also played good cricket in the last two years,” Shahidi stated.
