BAN vs IRE: On Friday, April 7, at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, veteran umpire Aleem Dar officiated his final Test match, which was between Bangladesh and Ireland. When he left the ground, he was accorded a guard of honour. In the first-ever Test match between the two teams, Bangladesh prevailed, defeating Ireland by seven wickets.
After 19 years of service, the 54-year-old umpire recently retired from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Elite Panel of Umpires. After the game, players from both teams and other match officials were seen presenting the Pakistan umpire with a guard of honour.
Dar retired after officiating in a record 439 men’s international matches, including 145 Tests, 225 ODIs, and 69 T20Is. He was a member of the ICC’s Elite Panel of Umpires since it was established in 2002.
In addition to receiving the renowned David Shepherd Award for being chosen as the ICC Umpire of the Year for three straight years in 2009, 2010, and 2011, Dar was the first umpire from his nation to be a member of the Elite Panel. He has played in five World Cups for 50 over and seven World Cups for 20 over.
In his distinguished career, the famous umpire has also presided over two ODI World Cup finals (in 2007 and 2011) and two T20 World Cup finals (in 2010 and 2012).
Rewinding to Day 4 of the Test match between Bangladesh and Ireland, Andy McBrine was at the crease with 71* and Graham Hume with 9* as Ireland maintained their innings from 286/8.
Ireland was defeated by Bangladesh by seven wickets.
In the second innings, Ireland was quickly dismissed for 292 runs by Bangladesh, with Ebadot Hossain taking both wickets. After a five-wicket haul in the first innings, Taijul Islam was once again the top bowler for the hosts, finishing with scores of 4/90 in 42 overs.
In the fourth innings, Bangladesh was given a goal of 138, which they easily attained while only losing three wickets. After his innings of 51* off 48, Mushfiqur Rahim once again finished as the highest scorer. He helped his team amass 369 runs in the first innings with a magnificent 126-run performance. With seven wickets, Bangladesh prevailed in the Test, and Mushfiqur Rahim was named Player of the Match.
