BCCI: Beginning with the 2023–24 season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to raise the prize money for all of its competitions. Large adjustments to prize money across competitions were announced by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who said they were a result of the organization’s efforts to support domestic cricket.
The top first-class event in India, the Ranji Trophy, offers a prize pool of INR 5 crore, while the Vijay Hazare Trophy offers INR 1 crore to the champions. Also, the BCCI changed the Ranji Trophy prize money for losers in the semifinals and runners-up. Shah also described domestic cricket as the backbone of Indian cricket while announcing the positive adjustments to the prize money on his Twitter account.
“I’m happy to report that the prize money for all BCCI domestic tournaments has increased. As domestic cricket is the foundation of Indian cricket, we’ll keep trying to invest in it. Sr. Women winners would receive $50k (up from $6k), while Ranji winners will receive 5 crores (up from 2 crores),” Jay Shah declared in a tweet on On April 16.
The victors of the Ranji Trophy for 2022–2023, Saurashtra, received INR 2 crore, while West Bengal placed second and received INR 1 crore. Prize money for domestic women’s cricket competitions also increased significantly. The prize money for the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy winners has raised from INR 6 lakh to INR 50 lakh, while the INR 40 lakh goes to the Women’s T20 Trophy winners.
Recently, BCCI released the domestic cricket schedule.
Nevertheless, on April 15 of this year, the BCCI released the schedule for the forthcoming domestic season 2023–24. On June 28, the Duleep Trophy will serve as the opening match of the domestic season. The Prof. Deodhar Trophy will follow. The Ranji Trophy will begin on January 5 and conclude on March 14, 2024.
Importantly, the highly sought-after tournaments will be held in six different zones, including the Central, South, North, East, West, and North-East zones. On October 1, 2023, the famed Irani Cup will also start. Teams from the Rest of India and the Ranji champion Saurashtra will square off.
Speaking of domestic limited-overs matches, there will be 38 teams competing for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which will be split into two groups of seven teams and three groups totalling eight teams. On October 16 and December 15, 2023, respectively, the tournaments will begin.
