Border Gavaskar Trophy: Ravi Shastri offers his thoughts on the ideal pitch for the forthcoming Test series.
The types of wickets that would be on exhibit during the four-match Test series between Australia and India have generated a lot of discussions. Ravi Shastri, a former India head coach, joined the conversation and offered his thoughts on the types of surfaces he would prefer to see during the forthcoming Test series.
For the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which begins on February 9 in Nagpur, India will play host to Australia. Notably, India has won the last three matches in the series and would like to add another series win this time around against Australia at home.
“I want to see the ball turn right away! So be it if you lose the toss. The ball should be seen to be spinning slightly. Or something is available for the bowlers starting on Day 1. It’s your power. At home, you’re having fun. Profit from it.” Shastri told Star Sports.
“A lot of nonsense is spoken about pitches. I think the curator should be the only one who decides what wickets are made. It shouldn’t be up to the players, the manager, the coach, or anyone else, in my opinion! Simply create a strong pitch. A curator must have played, and they aim to create a strong pitch,” he continued.
An India-Australia series generates unparalleled buzz: Ravi Shastri
The former Indian cricketer responded, “No question. India and Australia have one of cricket’s fiercest rivalries. Not simply the cricket game is going on there. A series between India and Australia generates the most hype in cricket. One of the teams that have actually challenged Australia is India. Everyone watches the series because of that.
“Above all else, the Indian players deserve praise for making it possible. Australia has a history of destroying teams and playing in a particular way. The fact that India challenged them and beat them at their own game says a lot about how well the Indian players have played in recent years,” Shastri came to an end.
