Border Gavaskar Trophy: The pitches used throughout the series have been a topic of frequent debate since the Border Gavaskar Trophy is set to start on February 9. Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian hitter, recently voiced his opinion that the pitches would have offered spin from the start if Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli were still in charge.
For quite a few days now, there has been discussion regarding the pitch that will be set up for the opening Test in Nagpur. Australia would be hoping to halt their streak of series victories in India prior to the series beginning, and the pitch would be a key component in making that happen.
Sanjay Manjrekar stated during a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, “India has always wanted or sought pitches that turn from Day 1 because there has been so much build-up and anticipation, as well as because there is such respect for the Australian team. Simply said, that makes their job much simpler.”
I’m not sure, but let’s prepare for pitches that will change from the first day: Manjrekar
The 57-year-old Manjrekar acknowledged that he is unaware of how the pitches in the series are going to be selected, even with Rohit Sharma serving as captain and Rahul Dravid serving as head coach. India made a name for itself internationally and maintained its hegemony at home during the decade when Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri served as captain and coach, respectively.
“If it had been Virat and Ravi, the pitches would unquestionably have been rank turners, turning from the first session. I am unsure of how this management strategy will work, so let’s prepare for pitches that will change from the start,” Manjrekar added.
Australia has been compelled to concentrate more on spin bowling in order to better prepare for what team India has in store for them given their track record on Indian soil since 2004. If the Australian batsmen are to defeat the Indian bowling attack, they must deliver a performance of a lifetime.
