Cricket Live: Team India captain Rohit Sharma discussed Ravichandran Ashwin’s involvement in the playing XI ahead of the 2023 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, saying that no decision has been made yet. The Oval in London will host the summit match between India and Australia commencing on Wednesday, June 7.
Prior to the lone Test, India’s captain Rohit Sharma stated that he had not made a decision over the inclusion of seasoned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the starting lineup. He said that the team composition will be chosen tomorrow based on the pitch circumstances, but he did not provide much information about it. The 36-year-old said, “The Oval’s surface changes quite a bit day to day.”
“I haven’t stated that Ashwin won’t participate. We’ll wait till tomorrow because, as I’ve noticed, the field does alter significantly from day to day,” Rohit remarked during the pre-game news conference.
He continued by saying that even if the pitch seems better one day, it can appear somewhat different the following day. Then he exhorted the entire 15-member team to be prepared to play in demanding circumstances.
“It seems as it does right now. Who knows how things will change tomorrow? Therefore, the guys have received a very clear message: All 15 players must be available to play at any time,” he continued.
It will be of great use to seamers, especially with the overhead conditions: Sharma
The captain of India believes that the pitch would largely benefit seamers. The surface may grow better and better as the game goes on, or it may go slower and slower, according to Rohit, thus the starting XI will be chosen accordingly.
“I saw the pitch yesterday, but I wasn’t able to see it today. However, it appears to be somewhat helpful for the seamstresses. It will be of great help to seamers, especially with the overhead situations. In this region of the planet, the pitch varies somewhat, though I’m not sure how severely. Like, it looked pretty similar to this when we played the last test match here at Oval,” he remarked.
“And then it grew better and better, slower and slower, as the game and the day went on. On day 5, the reverse swing was also in effect. So, certainly, before choosing 11, we’ll take into account all of those aspects,” Rohit said.
