Cricket News: Dinesh Karthik, a seasoned Indian wicket-keeper batter, selected his country’s top players across all three forms for the year 2022 on Wednesday (December 28). Even though India defeated Bangladesh in a Test series, 0–2, 2022 cannot be characterised as a great year for the Men in Blue.
Following a humiliating ten-wicket loss in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-finals in November, the Indian squad was unable to advance to the 2022 Asia Cup final.
They also lost the ODI series against Bangladesh this month, capping out their final white-ball bilateral campaign, 2-1. However, there were several standout performances this year, and Karthik named his top players for India in each format while speaking with Cricbuzz.
As the wicketkeeper batter who scored the most runs throughout the format in 2022, Karthik chose Rishabh Pant as the top performance for India in Test cricket. With the help of two hundred and four fifties, Pant amassed 680 runs in 12 Test innings in 2022 at a remarkable average of 61.81.
He was the only Indian hitter to surpass 500 runs in a Test match this year, but he struggled to have the same impact in 2022’s white-ball matches.
Shreyas Iyer was selected by Karthik as India’s top ODI cricket player for 2022. Shreyas finished the year with the most runs for India across all formats, demonstrating outstanding performance consistency in 2022. Iyer’s best performances occurred in ODI cricket, where he amassed 724 runs in 15 innings at an average of 55.69 thanks to 106 fifty-plus scores.
As was to be predicted, Karthik chose India’s top T20I cricket player for the year 2022 to be the in-form Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar finished the year with the most runs in T20I cricket, scoring 1164 runs in 31 innings at an astounding strike rate of 187.43 and an average of 46.54. Along with breaking two hundred and nine fifties, he appeared unstoppable for the entire year.
