Cricket News: England’s 2019 ODI World Cup champion, Eoin Morgan, has declared his retirement from all forms of cricket. Only the 36-year-old captain has so far led England to the ODI World Cup victory. With Ireland and both England, he has participated in more than 350 international games.
With 6957 runs in ODI cricket, the 36-year-old retires as the English team’s top scorer. Morgan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Twitter. He believed that it was time for him to stop competing in sports.
“I am announcing my retirement from all facets of cricket with the utmost pride. I’ve given it a lot of thought, but I think it’s time to stop playing the game that has given me so much over the years,” Morgan tweeted.
“I have loved every second of my journey, which began when I moved to England in 2005 to join Middlesex and ended when I played for Paarl Royals in SA20. There have been highs and lows, as there are in every athlete’s career, but my family and friends have been at my side through it all,” he added.
After retiring, Morgan will continue to work with the broadcasters.
Morgan made a statement and shared it on his social media accounts. The 36-year-old further stated that despite declaring his retirement, he will continue to play cricket. The former England captain revealed that he will serve as a commentator and analyst for the broadcasters at major international and franchise competitions.
Morgan, one of the best captains the England team has ever had, will leave a lasting impression. The 36-year-old previously declared his international retirement in June 2022, and he will no longer participate in any kind of competition. On February 8, he last participated in Paarl Royals’ defeat to Pretoria Capitals in the inaugural SA20 2023 semifinal. Morgan scored 17 runs off of 13 balls, but it was insufficient to advance the Royals to the tournament’s semifinals.
