IPL 2023: On December 23, when the IPL 2023 auction day is planned to take place in Kochi, veteran Indian cricketer Suresh Raina is expected to make a comeback as a cricket analyst. Raina will don the expert’s hat and participate on the Jio Sports panel. Some of the top figures in sports, like England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan and West Indies power hitter Chris Gayle, will be on the panel with him.
Notably, Morgan had no takers at the previous year’s super auction while Gayle did not exhibit any interest in registering his name for this year’s IPL auction. He had guided the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the 2021 championship game, where they lost to CSK.
The cricket player-turned-broadcaster Suresh Raina’s career
After being released by CSK, Raina registered his name for the big auction last year, but no franchises showed interest in purchasing him during the two-day event, and he remained unsold. The southpaw later made his debut as a broadcaster and pundit and was a member of Star Sports’ IPL Hindi commentary team.
Known as “Mr IPL,” Raina presently boasts the fifth-highest run total in IPL history with 5528 runs from 205 matches at an average of 32.52 and a strike rate of 136.76, including a century and 39 half-centuries. Raina once held the record for most runs scored in IPL history.
The UP cricketer announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. Since he was no longer bound by his BCCI contract, the southpaw made the decision to establish himself in foreign franchise leagues by joining the Deccan Gladiators, who would go on to win the Abu Dhabi T10 League in 2022. In August 2020, Raina announced his retirement from international cricket after a ten-year career that included 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20I.
