Cricket News: The second game of the ongoing T20I series between Australia Women and India Women saw the Women in Blue come back stronger to tie it up at 1-1. On Sunday, December 11, at the DY Patil Stadium, India played their first-ever Super Over, set a 21-run goal, and defeated Australia to win the second Twenty20 International.
One player, though, has been having a blast during this series. In both T20Is, Indian wicketkeeper-bat Richa Ghosh displayed excellent batting prowess. One of the key factors in India tying the score with Australia while chasing in the second game was her undefeated 13-ball 26*. Ghosh has been striking hard lately, and people are currently raving about her power-hitting abilities.
She went to the media prior to the third T20I and discussed her knock, saying:
“I simply finished the game as Smriti Didi (Mandhana) had instructed me to do, “Khatam karke aana” (complete the game and come). Power striking has always been my main priority. I put a lot of effort into it and concentrated on my mental toughness. Everything went as we had anticipated. I constantly aim to persevere and secure victory for my squad. We had a strategy in mind. The plan was to maintain the run flow during the middle overs to avoid having to exert ourselves during the slog overs.
I’m hoping to run into MS Dhoni someday: Richa
Richa expressed her admiration for famed wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, the former captain of India, and claimed she looks up to him. She also emphasised how important her father has been to her career and how he has helped her develop her power-hitting. The 19-year-old continued by saying that she has yet to have the chance to meet Dhoni and stated her wish to do so.
“Since I was a young child, I have followed Dhoni and the way he used to win games. My father (Manabendra Ghosh) was a big assistance in honing my power-hitting techniques since he would accompany me everywhere. He supports me wholeheartedly in following my aspirations because he was unable to go on to become a successful cricketer. I haven’t yet got the chance to meet him. He has occasionally left right before we arrived for a camp or a game at a venue. I’m hoping I’ll run across him sometime,” she replied.
Richa Ghosh’s next appearance will be at the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup, which will start on January 14, 2023, following the conclusion of the T20I home series against Australia.
