Cricket News: At the end of day one of the Nagpur Test, India is at 77 for 1, trailing by 100 runs after Australia was knocked out for 177 runs. Ravindra Jadeja claimed five wickets.
After Australia’s dismal opening day of play in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur, former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden criticised Pat Cummins’ team. India is currently trailing by just 100 runs after scoring 77/1 at the end of the play, while the visitors, who had won the toss and chosen to bat first, were routed for just 177 runs.
After the 2022 Asia Cup, Ravindra Jadeja, who was making a comeback, was the primary wrecker, taking five wickets and giving up 47 runs in 22 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin, meanwhile, took three wickets while conceding 42 runs in 15.5 overs. Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, two members of India’s speed team, each shared a wicket. With 49 runs off 123 balls, Marnus Labuschagne was the leading scorer for Australia.
Batting against the new ball was more challenging: Matthew Hayden
“Pat Cummins in particular received nothing through the air or from the surface. With the new ball, batting was more difficult, and Khawaja’s two early wickets were definitely one of Australia’s setbacks. Three guys, three ducks, and one for those three. You must avoid that when playing in India,” Matthew Hayden spoke with Star Sports about this.
“The team’s skipper, Pat Cummins, bowled poorly today. He was overstuffed and unsure of the direction his line and length should take. If you look at the pitch map, you can see that there was also simply too much wandering. Rohit Sharma was located directly at the opposite end, so it was only a matter of momentum. It does veer off, you know,” The Australian icon went on to say.
In the first innings, Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, came to bat. He got off to a fast start by hitting three boundaries in the first over of the Indian innings. From there, he went on to score 56 runs off 69 deliveries, including nine fours and a maximum, for an undefeated fifty. After KL Rahul got out to Todd Murphy after hitting 20 off of 71, Ravichandran Ashwin replaced Rohit as the night watchman.
