Cricket News: The Indian management made some significant changes to the T20I and ODI teams for the forthcoming home series against Sri Lanka after an ugly ODI series loss during the Bangladesh tour last month. In order for Rohit Sharma to fully recover from his thumb injury before the ODI series beginning on January 10, Rohit Sharma is reportedly being given extra rest. As a result, Hardik Pandya is now in charge of India’s T20I team.
Along with Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul is also missing from the T20I team. The management has picked the captain’s vice-captain for the T20I team against Sri Lanka to be the in-form Suryakumar Yadav.
When asked about Suryakumar’s promotion to vice-captain, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir responded that there are no other candidates for leadership positions in the youthful team selected for the Sri Lanka series.
“I don’t think we need to investigate it too much because we need to wait and see if they will keep Hardik as captain and Surya as vice-captain after Rohit joins the T20 squad. How many options did you have with this youthful squad? We’ll just have to wait and see.” According to Gambhir, Star Sports.
You cannot continue to chop and change: Gautam Gambhir
Hardik serving as captain and Suryakumar serving as vice-captain in the future will be a wise choice, according to Gambhir. Even if Rohit returns to T20Is, he argued, the selectors shouldn’t try to switch around the leadership positions.
“Now that he has been given leadership responsibilities, it is always an honour to serve as the nation’s vice-captain. So I am confident that he will perform well. You can’t keep chopping and shifting players, even if Rohit Sharma is added and the selectors decide that Hardik is the right player and Surya should be the vice-captain. So be it if this is your primary leadership philosophy,” Gambhir added.
