Cricket News: Shafali Verma, a batswoman for the India women’s team and the current U19 captain, has said that Indian great Sachin Tendulkar and English batting all-rounder Liam Livingstone are her role models. Notably, the top opener has drawn compared to former India opener Virender Sehwag due to his aggressive batting style and ability to score big runs quickly.
The 18-year-old asserted that she now looks up to Livingstone because of his aggressive batting style. Shafali, though, cited Tendulkar as her idol back then.
“Livingstone is hitting the ball pretty well right now, which is why I think I enjoy his batting. Of course, when I was younger and played cricket, I used to watch Sachin Tendulkar sir. Naturally, Sachin Sir is also my role model, and I enjoy watching him play the game since he is so composed. And I was considering learning something similar from him,” explained Shafali on the ‘Follow the Blues’ broadcast on Star Sports.
Shafali is leading the Indian squad in the U19 Women’s World Cup
Shafali is currently taking place in South Africa. India’s captain used her experience and skills from the senior women’s team to help the team win its first two games. The right-handed batter is confident that India will take home the coveted title.
“Since this is both my first and last year in the U-19 age group, it is obviously quite thrilling as well as being very good. We have a strong team, we enjoy spending time with the girls a lot, and I hope we play good cricket. Of course, we want to make the world cup, so we’ll work hard to get there. It’s simply a matter of how they are taking them; I would say that we are batting, bowling, and fielding far above average. However, as captain, I hope that we win the world cup,” she concluded.
