Cricket News: After three years, the home-and-away format will return for the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the defending champion Gujarat Titans (GT) will play host to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s final IPL season has also generated a lot of rumours in the interim.
Shane Watson, a former star for CSK and Australia, made an excellent statement in response to Dhoni’s decision to leave the T20 format. Watson, who is now playing in Doha’s Legends League Cricket (LLC), claimed that Dhoni is healthy enough to continue playing for the next three to four years. He believed that the CSk captain’s leadership abilities were on par with the level of play he exhibits.
“But I’ve heard, MS Dhoni won’t be playing in the IPL after this season. MS Dhoni has three to four more years left in his playing career. He is still in great shape and does a great job both batting and keeping wickets. His ability to lead is on par with his skill in sports. He makes a terrific leader because of his athleticism and ability to understand the game’s mentality. His on-the-ground abilities are outstanding. He contributes significantly to CSK’s success “said Watson to ANI.
Suresh Raina, a former colleague of Dhoni’s from CSK, expressed confidence in the iconic captain’s involvement in the IPL.
Suresh Raina, a former player for India and CSK, had previously stated that MS Dhoni could take part in the upcoming IPL season. Raina hinted about Dhoni’s potential participation in the event the next year while supporting his commitments and peak condition.
“I wish he could, but we’ll have to wait and see what his obligations are. He might even play in the IPL next year. It depends on the results this year, but he’s been hitting well and seems fit,” remarked Raina.
CSK had a poor 2022 IPL season as they came in second-to-last in the points standings. MS Dhoni had a better season personally, though, as it marked his first IPL half-century since 2019. The 41-year-old has amassed 232 runs at a strike rate of 123.40 and an average of 33.14 last season.
