Cricket News: In the second ODI, Australian left-arm bowler Mitchell Starc destroyed the Indian top order in a brilliant display of fast bowling to tie the three-match series for his team. While critics and pundits were quick to note India’s susceptibility to left-arm fast bowling, skipper Rohit Sharma did not have the same opinion following the devastating defeat in Visakhapatnam.
After fending off Mitchell Starc’s danger, India won the ODI series in Mumbai with a spirited victory. The Australian star dismissed four of the top five Indian batters in the second ODI, keeping them to a small score but providing no solace for the home team.
Although India’s difficulties with left-arm fast bowling are not recent phenomena, Rohit Sharma claimed it was more due to the bowlers’ technique than whether they were “left-frmers or right-armers”.
“When the opposition has a good bowler, he is going to get wickets. He is making every effort to remove your star players. They will succeed whether they are right-armers or left-armers in getting wickets. Nobody talks about how the right-armers have bothered us,” said Rohit to the reporters following the second ODI here.
We don’t spend a lot of time considering the left or right arm: Rohit Sharma
An awful collapse in the second ODI, which came after a lacklustre performance by the top order in the first ODI, allowed the Australians to tie the three-match series with one game remaining. In particular, Rohit said the squad would prepare better for the seam bowlers in the series finale.
“We don’t focus too much on a player’s left or right arm because wickets are wickets. Losing wickets raises questions. We will investigate a variety of issues, including how we are leaving, what needs to be done, how we may develop better strategies, and how to go up against the seamen. You know, in the last six ODIs, if I remember a lot of the top order (batsmen) got massive runs. We will certainly investigate it when we truly need to,” Rohit continued.
