T20 World Cup: All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the current ODI series against India and the next T20 World Cup owing to a fracture of his left thumb, Cricket South Africa said on Thursday. The announcement was made by the board prior to the start of the first ODI versus India at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium.
All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as well as the three-match ODI series against India owing to a fractured left thumb, according to a tweet from the CSA official account.
Dr. Shuaib Manjra, chief medical officer, explained: “Dwaine will contact the designated hand surgeon for Cricket South Africa upon arrival in South Africa due to the nature of the injury, which necessitates surgical intervention. Normal rehabilitation techniques will next be used to make sure he quickly resumes playing cricket.”
In the upcoming days, more information regarding Pretorius’ replacement for the T20 World Cup will be released. The ODI team has been expanded to include Marco Jansen.
While Wayne Parnell and Tristan Stubbs have been added to the roster, Temba Bavuma will captain the team in the World Cup.
All 15 players have been given the opportunity to compete, with 22-year-old Tristan Stubbs earning his first World Cup call-up after a standout performance in the most recent T20I series against England.
Rilee Rossouw and Wayne Parnell are two more prominent picks, and the selectors have named three travelling reserves in Bjorn Fortuin, Marco Jasen, and Andile Phehlukwayo.
South Africa squad: Temba Bavuma (captain), Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, Lungi Ngidi, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Aiden Markram, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw, Reeza Hendricks, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs.
The travelling reserves are Andile Phehlukwayo, Marco Jansen, and Bjorn Fortuin.
