3rd Australia ODI: “Bring him on the field, let him play, and let him spook a couple of batters all over the place,” Lee urged.
Former Australian speedster Brett Lee has pleaded with India to select Umran Malik in the starting lineup for the third ODI following the 10-wicket humiliation at the hands of Australia in Visakhapatnam. The decisive match between the two cricketing giants is scheduled to take place on March 22 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The Men in Blue’s performance in the second ODI was forgettable after Mitchell Starc’s amazing five-for (5/53), which reduced the side to a pitiful 117 runs. The tourists reached the pitiful score in just 11 overs, adding insult to injury for India, thanks to undefeated performances from Mitchell Marsh (66 runs) and Travis Head (51 runs).
Lee offered his opinion on putting speedy Umran in the Starting Lineup for the series-deciding ODI prior to the match. He continued by saying that the management would have to test the pacer at the “deep end” in order to gain more experience.
“Since sheer pace is so difficult to control, he would have been my first choice for my team. While you must take care of them, you must also occasionally send them into the deep end. Bring him on the field, let him play, and watch him frighten a few batters around the globe,” Lee spoke with Sports Net.
Umran Malik has Brett Lee’s support for the Test match
The former Australian cricketer has never been afraid to stand up for the India pacer, and he has even endorsed him to play in the Australia-hosted 2022 T20 World Cup. Lee continued by saying that the administration should select Umran for the squad since he prefers to play Test cricket.
“I enjoy him. Bring him in. Just why not? (Adding to Test cricket). I suggested that he participate in the World Cup in Australia last year. did not include him at first but he ought to have been there,” he added.
Despite Jasprit Bumrah’s extended absence, India has still done well with players like Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Umran, among others. The Jammu and Kashmir pacer has not yet played in a Test match, thus it is unknown when he will do so.
