ODI Wicket: In the playing XI for the opening ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand on Friday, Umran Malik made his long-awaited ODI debut. The fast bowler had an immediate impact as he defeated Devon Conway and quickly followed by dismissing Daryl Mitchell. Conway was caught by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant off the first ball of the 16th over by Umran, giving him his first scalp of the game.
Conway tried to drive it but could only achieve a slight outside edge since it was a full, rapid, and wide delivery bowled outside off stump. Rishabh Pant was able to catch it with ease.
Soon after, Umran defeated Daryl Mitchell, and on his ODI debut, he had an immediate effect.
Sairaj Bahutale, the bowling coach, gave Umran his first ODI cap.
After being assigned to bat first in the ongoing first ODI, Team India scored 306/7 in 50 overs.
Dhawan (72), Shreyas Iyer (80), and Shubman Gill (50) all contributed strong innings, but Washington Sundar’s unbeaten 37-run innings off just 16 balls ultimately enabled India to score more than 300 runs.
Team India’s left-handed hitter Shikhar Dhawan is in charge of the current three-match ODI series against New Zealand. The seasoned pro demonstrated his mettle against the hosts with a knock of 72 in the first ODI and a 124-run first-wicket partnership with Shubman Gill. Before the opening ODI, former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri lauded Shikhar Dhawan and claimed that the left-hander does not receive the recognition he truly merits.
Shastri said the following during Prime Video’s pre-match coverage of the first ODI: “He has a lot of experience. He doesn’t receive the praise he merits. In all honesty, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the main subjects of attention. However, when you consider his one-day cricket record and some of the innings he has played against elite teams in significant matches, it’s a remarkable record.”
