IND vs NZ: The opener is a member of the Indian team that will play a three-match T20I series against New Zealand starting later this week.
After complaining of wrist soreness during his Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad, young Indian top-order batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad checked into the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The opener is a member of the Indian team that will play a three-match T20I series against New Zealand starting later this week.
After scoring just 8 and 0 in the two innings of the play for Maharashtra against Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy, the 25-year-old struggled to make an impression. The batting ace claimed that he continued to bat despite complaining of pain in his right wrist even though his team won the match fairly.
Gaikwad reported his pain to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical staff and checked into the NCA for additional evaluation. It’s important to remember that he missed the T20I series against Sri Lanka in July of last year due to a wrist ailment. He recently participated in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and was chosen for the next T20I series against the Kiwis after scoring four tonnes in only five games.
Due to the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul from the squad, Prithvi Shaw, who is currently on fire, may see action in the forthcoming series if Ruturaj is unable to recuperate from his wrist injury. Along with the fashionable opener, middle-order mainstay Shreyas Iyer is also at the NCA following his absence from the current ODI series against New Zealand due to a back ailment. It will be intriguing to see if he is able to recover in time for the much-awaited Test series against Australia that starts next month.
India’s T20I squad for the New Zealand series: Hardik Pandya (c), Suryakumar Yadav (vc), Ishan Kishan (wk), Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, Prithvi Shaw, Mukesh Kumar
