IND vs NZ: The third and final ODI match between Team India and New Zealand was contested at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Tuesday, January 24, and Team India triumphed decisively by 90 runs. After the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma and the company successfully completed another whitewash this year by winning the series 3-0.
Tom Latham, the skipper of the New Zealand team, won the toss earlier in the day and decided to field first, a choice that ultimately cost them the game. India’s opening pair of Rohit and Shubman Gill got off to a fast start, scoring 212 runs between them before the captain was removed. The 212-run partnership between Rohit and Gill against New Zealand in ODIs is also the most by an opening pair.
Gill amassed 112 runs in 78 deliveries, while Rohit scored 101 runs off of 85 balls, his second-fastest ODI tonne. At the age of 23, Gill’s century also allowed the batsman to tie Babar Azam of Pakistan for the highest runs ever scored in a three-match ODI series (360 runs).
With a rapid half-century, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who batted in the middle order, led the team to a big total of 385 runs in the allotted 50 overs of the match (54 runs off 38 balls).
The century by Devon Conway is in vain.
In order to severely damage Finn Allen’s confidence, Hardik knocked him out on the second ball of the visitors’ innings. Devon Conway then delivered a fantastic performance, smashing the ball with ease and scoring 138 runs off 100 balls, including 12 fours and 8 sixes.
Young pacer Umran Malik sent the batter packing just as he attempted to perform a save for the team, giving the Kiwis a serious scare. To end the match, Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur returned with bowling stats of 3/62 and 3/45, respectively.
India won the series 3-0 and has since supplanted England as the top-ranked ODI side thanks to their ruthless performance.
The Netizens’ reactions to the series’ victory were as follows:
