Test Eligibility: James Anderson, a veteran England pacer, suffered a groyne injury while competing for Lancashire in the current County Championship, which has raised questions about his availability for the impending one-off Test against Ireland and the Ashes match against Australia. The bowler has reiterated that he hopes to be ready for selection in the one-off Test match against the adjacent nation and that he should be healthy in time.
The 40-year-old did, however, add that he doesn’t mind waiting on the bench if it helps him prepare for the Ashes. Notably, the Ashes 2023 will start on June 16 at Edgbaston, while the Test match against Ireland will start on June 1 at the venerable Lord’s Cricket Ground.
“I anticipate being in shape for the Ireland game. It honestly doesn’t matter if I play or not. I don’t want to take the chance at all. A minor groyne strain exists. I’m already in rehabilitation; the 10-day recuperation phase starts the next week. It was a poor situation’s best outcome. I’ll do whatever to be healthy for the opening Ashes Test. So be it; even if it means missing the Ireland Test.
“Although I was upset to have to leave a game, the outcome was actually rather decent considering what would happen in the summer. I had a separate, more catastrophic injury in 2019. It was a huge struggle to try to be in shape for the first Test after I tore my calf earlier that summer. I don’t think this is quite that serious,” Anderson said, according to The Mirror.
Jofra Archer and I are both devastated: Anderson
The elbow injury suffered by England bowler Jofra Archer has returned, preventing him from playing in the next English summer. Anderson said he was heartbroken for Archer and expected him to bounce back stronger when talking about the same thing.
“Jofra had some difficult years. The ache in my elbow keeps returning. I’m really heartbroken. I am aware of how diligently he worked to attempt to get back in shape. I only hope that it isn’t too serious and that he is unable to return. While speaking to Sky Sports,” Anderson expressed his desire that he would return as soon as possible.
