T20 World Cup: Former Australian bowler Brett Lee, a World Cup champion, has chosen his top XI from the recently finished T20 World Cup 2022. No Australian cricketers are included on the famed pacer’s team, which also includes two Pakistanis, one New Zealander, four English cricketers, and four players from India.
Notably, on November 13, England defeated Pakistan in the tournament’s championship match to win the trophy at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Jos Buttler, the English team’s captain, got the highest total of 225 runs, and Alex Hales smashed 212 runs to seal the team’s strong start. Both players were selected by Lee as openers for his XI and are part of the ICC’s tournament team.
Sam Curran, who took 13 wickets from six innings and was named Player of the Tournament after winning the final, was also included in Lee’s list. Lee’s XI also included the brilliant English spinner Adil Rashid, who only had four wickets overall but was outstanding in the semifinal and championship matches.
In Brett Lee’s Best XI, there are four Indians but no Australian cricketers.
The World Cup run of India concluded with a humiliating ten-wicket loss to England in the second semifinal match, although there were some positives for the team overall. Suryakumar Yadav scored 239 runs at an incredible strike rate of 189.68, the best in the tournament, while Virat Kohli scored the highest 296 runs from just six innings with the help of four half-centuries. Both players are included in Lee’s best XI of the competition, as was to be expected.
Lee also named renowned all-rounder Hardik Pandya and promising bowler Arshdeep Singh in his selection. Hardik contributed 128 runs and eight wickets, while Arshdeep claimed ten wickets. Due to India’s failure to get to the final, neither player was selected for the ICC’s tournament team.
Star Lee’s best XI team also includes all-rounder Shadab Khan and Pakistani bowler Shaheen Afridi. To help Pakistan advance to the championship, both players grabbed 11 wickets. Lee’s team also included Glenn Phillips, a versatile New Zealand batsman who scored 201 runs in just five innings, including a 104-run knock against Sri Lanka.
