ODI WC 2023: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is seeking formal permission to go to India for the ODI World Cup 2023, which begins on October 5. The board has written to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Foreign Ministry, requesting clarification on whether the Pakistan cricket team is permitted to go to India and whether there are any concerns at any of the five locations where Pakistan will play their matches.
The letter also requests that the Pakistani government send a security mission to conduct reconnaissance before of the competition. Notably, all of Pakistan’s league matches will be played in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata. According to sources, PCB wrote the letter on June 26 as a required step because flying to India requires special government approval.
According to ESPNCricinfo, no date has been set for the government to reply, although PCB is unlikely to go without official approval. The PCB also shared with the authorities Pakistan’s whole itinerary, which includes the high-voltage showdown against India in Ahmedabad on October 15.
“Soon after the World Cup schedule was announced last Tuesday, we wrote to our Patron, Honourable Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, through the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry, copying the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior, requesting clearance to participate in the World Cup,” the PCB told ESPNcricinfo.
The PCB also stated that the government may send an advance team to India to check sites and confer with event organisers.
The Pakistani government is likely to delay the decision.
“The decision to visit India and approve venues for our matches is entirely within the purview of the Government of Pakistan. We have complete faith in our government’s judgement and will do whatever is suggested. It is totally up to the Government of Pakistan to develop and follow the process before advising us on the next steps. If this necessitates sending an advance team to India to check the sites and confer with event organisers, the government will make the final decision,” PCB noted.
According to the report, the present Pakistan administration may not decide to visit to India because its term ends in August. As a result, it will be postponed until the next administration takes office. At this point, the present government is unlikely to make an official declaration.
