ODI World Cup: The much-anticipated itinerary for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 was officially revealed on Tuesday, June 27, in Mumbai, by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the ICC (International Cricket Council). Despite the PCB’s (Pakistan Cricket Board) objection to the location of India vs. Pakistan game, there was no change in the schedule, and the game would be played at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
In a fresh development, PCB has declared that it needs permission from the Pakistani government to go to India and participate in the major tournament. Notably, bilateral cricketing connections between India and Pakistan have not existed since 2013. The two teams last played a bilateral series in 2012-13 and have only met in international events since then.
“The PCB requires clearance from the Government of Pakistan for any tour to India, including match venues,” a PCB representative told Cricbuzz.
According to the source, they are in contact with their government and will notify the ICC whenever they receive a response.
“We are in contact with our government for guidance, and once we receive a response, we will notify the Event Authority (ICC). This position is consistent with what we stated to the ICC a few weeks ago when they shared the draught timetable with us and asked for comment,” the official added.
The ICC and BCCI, on the other hand, are certain that the Pakistan squad will fly to India.
One of the PCB’s concerns was the upcoming India-Pakistan match in Ahmedabad. Instead, they indicated a desire to play in Chennai or Bengaluru. They also demanded that the hosts, the BCCI and the ICC, reschedule their games against Afghanistan and Australia, which are presently planned in Chennai and Bengaluru.
“Pakistan has signed a participation agreement to compete, and we expect them to be there with no indications to the contrary,” a global organisation spokeswoman said.
“All Members must follow their country’s rules and laws, and we respect that. However, we are confident that Pakistan will participate in the Men’s Cricket World Cup in India,” the official continued.
Since the beginning of the year, the PCB and the BCCI have been at odds over the location of the Asia Cup 2023. India refused to come to Pakistan for the event, while Pakistan threatened to withdraw from the World Cup in retribution.
