ODI World Cup Announcement: A core “working group” has been established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to manage the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is slated to take place in October. The SGM for the BCCI is planned to take place in Ahmedabad on May 27. Notably, with Secretary Jay Shah in charge of the proceedings, the apex board would address a five-point agenda at the meeting to all affiliates.
According to News18, the BCCI president, secretary, treasurer, acting CEO, and other top executives will make up the working committee for the ODI flagship event. The board has set up money for the infrastructure of the stadiums that require renovation and will be made spectator-friendly and might host the ODI World Cup in October. The group will also consider choosing the sites and ensuring a successful World Cup at home.
The ICC has not yet released the schedule for the next mega ODI competition. In addition, Team Pakistan has not yet confirmed their itinerary for the tournament, which might affect how the competition is scheduled overall.
A WPL development committee will be established.
The BCCI will undertake discussions to create a committee for the Women’s Premier League (WPL), among other important items on the list. The committee will be established to safeguard the growth of the league and its players, along with the establishment of a specific window that must be decided as soon as possible.
The ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place at the same time as the WPL, therefore the authorities considered holding the tournament around Diwali but ultimately decided against it.
“This year, the Australian women’s team won’t begin the WPL until after the third week of February since they have international competitions scheduled up until then. If you’re looking at the Diwali window, the men’s World Cup is there,” a franchisee official said, speaking under the condition of anonymity and cited by News18.
At the SGM, the BCCI will endeavour to approve its Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PSH) policy. This follows the allegations of sexual harassment against former BCCI CEO Rahul Johri that made headlines.
