SRH vs KKR: Harry Brook has struggled to find his footing during the Indian Premier League 2023, with the exception of one match where he scored an incredible century against KKR. The 24-year-old was elevated to open the innings in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s third match against Punjab Kings after struggling in the middle order.
Brook played an electrifying knock of 100* off 55 balls as the tournament’s second opening batsman, striking 12 fours and three sixes during his innings. Before being moved up the order, Brian Lara, the head coach of SRH, had meetings with Brook, who revealed that Lara had told Brook that he could face the swinging ball because he was a Test player.
“He [Brian Lara] told me, ‘You’re a Test player,'” Brook recalled. He was aware of my ability to confront the swinging ball and adjust to it. He, therefore, sent me up top. In my second game, which was my first time truly doing it, I scored 100 runs,” Brook told ESPNCricinfo.
The two-time IPL champions purchased the England international at the mini-auction in December 2022 for a staggering INR 13.25 Crore, therefore his performance has been closely watched by the media. Brook has only managed to score 63 runs in seven innings aside from his hundred. As a result, after three failures at the top following his hundred, was dropped down the order in SRH’s most recent match against Delhi Capitals.
I’ve temporarily stopped using social media: Harry Brook
Speaking after his spectacular hundred against KKR, Brook said he was relieved to silence his trolls. However, following his four straight failures, they have once more returned. The young person disclosed that he had stopped using social media to combat the ongoing cyberbullying.
It’s one of the most difficult parts. You do find yourself on your phone a lot when you have nothing to do, are in a hotel, and don’t really get out and about as much as you do at home. Things appear, but they are meaningless keyboard fighters at their best. I’ve temporarily stopped using social media. I’m hoping it changes things,” he continued.
The fact that Brook struggles fighting spin was one of the key faults in his approach that the experts emphasised. He has only faced 45 spinner balls all season, though.
“When I’m in the centre of the order, I haven’t experienced as many challenges as normal. However, India is well known for producing talented spinners, which presents a unique challenge,” he continued.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are currently in ninth place in the IPL points table with three victories in eight games, would like to get to the playoffs if Brook has a strong second half of the season. The following match for SRH will take place against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 4 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
