The Ashes: David Warner, an Australian cricketer who has his sights set on the 2018 Ashes, says he still has a lot of playing left in him and has no plans to retire.
Prior to having to return to Australia due to an elbow fracture, Warner was a member of the Australian team competing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in India. In Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium during the second Test, he had also sustained a concussion. Australia was defeated by six wickets in the second Test. In the end, Warner was unable to pick up where he left off on Day 2.
“I’m playing till 2024,” declared David Warner.
The 36-year-old remarked to reporters at Sydney Airport, “I’ve always stated I’m playing till 2024; if the selectors believe that I’m not worthy of my spot, then so be it, and I can press on to the white-ball stuff.”
The daring left-handed batter expressed excitement about taking part in the upcoming Ashes trip to England. Warner made the audacious claim that he would not mind switching to the white-ball format if the selectors sought to bypass him or shorten his career in red-ball cricket.
“I still have the next 12 months, and the team still has a lot of cricket to play. And the squad would benefit greatly if I could continue to score runs, give my all for the team, and keep my spot. When you’re 36 and about to turn 37, you’re an obvious target for detractors. I’ve also witnessed it with former players. Hence, I’m willing to do it for myself if it relieves the strain on the other men on the squad and no one is worried about them,” the underfire Aussie cricketer said.
One of the numerous Australian cricketers who have returned from the Test series against India in the middle is Warner. Ashton Agar will play for Western Australia in domestic cricket, while Josh Hazlewood has also returned to recover from an Achilles injury.
