The Ashes: Ben Stokes, the legendary red-ball skipper of England, hasn’t performed to his customary high standards for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023, but the important all-rounder is content that he can bowl without experiencing any pain. The record-breaking CSK signing bowled just one over for his team in Chepauk’s triumph over Lucknow Super Giants.
Ben Stokes is frequently pictured gripping his knee when bowling for the national team, and his much-maligned knee issue limited the English all-rounder to just nine overs in four innings during England’s two-match Test series in New Zealand earlier this year.
Given his problematic knee ailments, it was not believed that he would bowl in the match against Lucknow, but to the astonishment of quite a few spectators, he bowled an over of medium pace. The 31-year-old said he had no pain while bowling, and he hopes to start serving as England’s fourth seamer on June 16.
“Bowling with this knee issue has been a very frustrating year. It has been really difficult for me to not be able to perform my fourth seamer duties. I’ve put a lot of effort into the past month to get to where I am. It has been beneficial to be pain-free when bowling.
“It took a lot of effort, but I was able to bowl an over in the IPL without experiencing any knee pain. Everything is going well; just take it slow and don’t try to rush yourself. My top aim is to make sure I can perform the duties of the fourth seamer in the Ashes,” The captain of England’s Test team said Sky Sports’ Nasser Hussain.
The English all-rounder is taking things slowly and is aiming to be healthy and prepared to bowl in the eagerly awaited Ashes series, despite the fact that he gave up 18 runs in his lone over for CSK. Birmingham’s Edgbaston will host the first Ashes Test match.
