Australia Test series: If Rishabh Pant’s recovery is not complete in time for the four-match home Test series against Australia that begins on February 9, India may be compelled to hunt for a wicketkeeper-batter. On the morning of Friday, December 30, Pant was involved in a terrible vehicle accident while driving along the Delhi-Dehradun route.
He had many wounds, and it’s anticipated that they will prevent him from playing on the field for an extended length of time.
While KS Bharat is a solid choice to succeed Pant in the home red-ball series against the Aussies, former India selector Saba Karim believes that Ishan Kishan is the ideal successor for the 25-year-old.
“I concur that KS Bharat is being prepared for the position of test keeper. With all due respect, I believe Ishan Kishan would make a better Pant replacement given the type of position that Pant was filling for the Test team. He is participating in the Ranji Trophy and quickly reached 100 runs,” according to Saba on India News.
“Pant’s presence helped us win Tests because he not only played match-winning knocks but also did so quickly. This put pressure on the opposition and gave the bowlers enough time to get 20 wickets. Kishan has been playing domestic red-ball cricket for a few years, but he hasn’t played red-ball cricket for India A,” said Saba.
Ishan Kishan appears to have secured a consistent spot in India’s playing XI for white-ball cricket in the interim. When he hit 210 runs off 131 deliveries in the third One Day International against Bangladesh at Chattogram last month, he set a new record for the fastest double century.
Returning to Rishabh Pant, the middle-order batsman was rested for the forthcoming limited-overs series starting on January 3 at home against Sri Lanka. Both Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have secured spots in the T20I squad. Samson has not been picked in the ODI team, but Ishan is.
