Cricket News: As of Day 3, Australia needs just 76 runs to win the third Test in ongoing India vs. Australia series. The Kangaroos, who had a comfortable lead of 88 runs earlier in the day, bowled India out for 163 thanks to Nathan Lyon, who took 8/64 in 23.3 overs. Australian spinners have been a problem for India throughout the Test, as evidenced by Matthew Kuhnemann’s 5/16 in nine overs during India’s first innings.
Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria remarked that India is missing Rishabh Pant in the Indore Test because of his aggressive style, which would have overpowered Lyon and Kuhnemann. He was commenting on India’s batting difficulties against spin.
The wounds Pant received in a terrible accident in December 2022 are still being treated. It will apparently take the wicketkeeper-batter more than a year to get back on the cricket field. Kaneria claimed that if Pant had used his feet to stomp Lyon and Kuhnemann all over the park, he wouldn’t have spared them.
“Rishabh Pant would advise you to use your feet, approach the ball’s pitch, and smash the ball far if you asked him how to bat against these spinners. Lyon and Kuhnemann would not have been spared if he had been present. He would have attacked them, forcing them to alter their lengths. Indian hitters have fallen short,” Sportskeeda cited a statement from Kaneria.
India’s first innings score might have been between 250 and 300 had they batted properly: Kaneria Danish
The former spinner added that Indian hitters were disappointing and could have scored 250–300 runs easily if they had put more effort into their play.
“India may have batted sensibly and amassed 250–300 points in their opening game. However, their wasteful stroke play has now put Australia in the lead, and I believe Australia has an 80% probability of winning this game at this point,” he added.
India has only lost two home tests in the past ten years, and if Australia wins the third test on Day 3, they will go to the World Test Championship final. India must win three of the remaining Tests in the series in order to guarantee their own entry into the WTC final; else, they will be dependent on the outcome of the Test series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
