WPL 2023 Auction: Smriti Mandhana of India struck gold during the first Women’s Premier League auctions when she caused a bidding war between the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. At a staggering fee of 3.4 crores, RCB finally purchased the Indian opener.
After getting selected by RCB, Mandhana was unable to contain her joy. She was seen celebrating her selection with the Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma, and numerous other athletes in a video that quickly became popular. She thought back on her emotions after being one of the most expensive players at the first auction.
“I was engrossed in the males being auctioned off while I watched with my friends. Having an auction of this kind is such an important event for us. Everything about it is thrilling. The fan base that RCB has amassed is impressive. ecstatic to be a part of such a significant franchise. excited to wear that colour red, and we’ll do our best to win the cup,” Mandhana added.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore football team keeps on spending money.
One of the biggest spenders in the first WPL auction was Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Bengaluru-based team has signed Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, Renuka Singh, and Richa Ghosh in addition to signing Indian opener Smirti Mandhana.
“Mandhana and Perry are well-known to everyone; we were really adamant about getting them. We are overjoyed to have such excellent players. Being able to recruit Mandhana, Perry, and Devine is a wonderful outcome for us. Given that Smriti has extensive experience as a captain and is familiar with the Indian environment, it is quite possible that she will serve as captain,” In the press conference, RCB Director of Cricket Mike Hesson noted.
Going into the WPL, RCB’s team appears to be strong. The team immediately went for the big names and was successful in landing the majority of the players they desired; however, it is still unclear how their ultimate roster would appear.
