Robin van Persie thinks Arsenal will seize the league title for the 1st time since 03/04 season. The former attacker of The Gunners concludes that Mikel Arteta has forged a championship team.
Van Persie predicts Premier League winner: “That says my feeling”
Arsenal’s last championship was nineteen years ago. Shortly afterwards, Van Persie made his entrance at the club. The all-time top scorer of the Dutch national team would wear the Arsenal shirt for eight years and is still closely following his old employer. “If you look at this period… This is where every point really counts,” Van Persie said in front of the Sky Sports camera.
With ten games to go, Arsenal are eight points ahead of closest pursuers Manchester City. The Citizens still have a game in hand. “Arsenal have had a few difficult games in which they took the three points. That’s what makes it a championship team. They have proven themselves,” Van Persie continued.
The last piece
According to Van Persie, who made the switch to Manchester United after his time in London, that does not mean that the title fight has already been decided. “The last part is always difficult. It will be interesting to see, but my gut feeling is that Arsenal will win the Premier League. It’s been a long time, so I’m happy for them if it works out,” he added.
That Van Persie has not forgotten how to play football himself, he proved on Sunday during a benefit duel in Glasgow. As part of a world team, he scored twice against Rangers FC. The first goal in particular is more than worth watching.
Van Persie steals the show in charity match between ‘legends’ in Glasgow
Robin van Persie showed in Glasgow on Sunday that he had not forgotten how to play football. The former international was one of the tastemakers in a benefit duel between Rangers FC legends and a ‘world team’ with many old acquaintances.
Van Persie formed a team in Ibrox Stadium with, among others, occasional captain Jaap Stam, Emmanuel Petit, Michael Essien and Nwankwo Kanu. The Rangers legends included Ronald Waterreus, Ronald de Boer, Barry Ferguson and Shota Arveladze as former players of The Gers.
The ‘world team’ eventually won 3-4, thanks in part to two goals from Van Persie. His first was particularly good: on the instructions of former Liverpool player Stuart Downing, the former striker of Feyenoord, Arsenal and Manchester United, among others, left Waterreus without a chance. Van Persie’s decisive 3-4 was a simple ticker.
Before the break, the Rotterdammer also had a tour de force: on a pass from Essien, Van Persie wanted to surprise Waterreus with a bicycle kick, but the former goalkeeper of PSV and Rangers, among others, was alert and answered the feat with a smile and a high five.
