Robin van Persie’s cerdict was that he has enjoyed the performance of his old club Manchester United, which came out on top in the Europa League thanks to Antony Barcelona’s ‘special’ goal.
After the 2-2 draw at Camp Nou, Manchester United struck at Old Trafford on Thursday; 2-1. Antony’s decisive goal was a special one, Van Persie said. “The finish was really special. Most players would go for the hard bang because it’s the easiest choice. He had the overview,” said the former international at BT Sport.
Van Persie had seen enough beautiful things from Manchester United. “The atmosphere was charged. I really enjoyed the second half. They were very, very dangerous after the break,” said the former attacker, who sees the right team spirit in Fernandes. “He plays on the wing and the big players do that for the team when necessary. Wayne Rooney did too. Fernandes shows that he puts profit and the team above all else.”
Robin van Persie’s visit to the training field of Manchester United
Prior to the fixture, Robin van Persie was back on the training field of Manchester United. The former striker says he senses that something is going on at his former club.
“I feel that,” Van Persie responded to the question of the media department whether he notices that something is bubbling under Erik ten Hag. “Just through simple things. For example, this morning when I arrived at the airport, a fan came up to me and asked if I’m going to the game.”
“I said yes, I’m going to the game, I’m here for the game and he said okay, me too,” Van Persie continues his anecdote. “I said where are you from and he said he had travelled especially to see tonight’s and Sunday’s games from Bangkok. So he travelled and I said wow that’s a lot of dedication and he said yes I’m a huge fan. He said this makes Manchester United really happy with the way they play, the energy, the intensity.”
He continued, “It’s a sign that people are happy to see Manchester United play. The whole energy around the club is so much more positive than it has been in recent years. Ten Hag deserves the credits for that. But also the players. Everyone deserves credits.”
“It’s still completely open now. It’s a joy to watch for fans. Both teams want to attack, both want to play dominant football, both are very fit. I’m really looking forward to it,: the former striker concluded.
