A relieved Christophe Galtier’s expression was over the moon after his team’s comeback in the spectacle against Lille on Sunday afternoon. The coach also commented on the remarkable interference from technical advisor Luis Campos along the sidelines.
There seemed to be no problem for PSG, which was already leading 2-0 after just over fifteen minutes. After that, however, Galtier’s team gave it away completely. Halfway through the second half, Lille came to 2-3. At that point, Campos had seen enough. He left his seat at the top of the stadium, stormed down and began to stir along the sidelines. Campos shouted all sorts of things at the PSG players and the referees.
Whether the message from the Portuguese helped or not: the home team turned it around in the final minutes thanks to hits from Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi. After that winning goal in the 94th minute, Galtier even flew into the arms of the Argentinian.
“This victory gives us some breathing room,” Galtier told L’Équipe afterwards. “If you are PSG coach and you lose three games in a row, there is pressure, also from you, that is normal. I try to ignore that and stay in my bubble. But of course, after these three defeats, I also had discussions with the management and the chairman,” the coach acknowledged.
Neymar’s injury update
He was also asked about Campos’ behavior. The td already reported in the dressing room last week at halftime of the duel with AS Monaco and has now asserted itself along the line. “It’s not interference,” says Galtier. “Not even in Monaco. Luis is passionate about winning. There’s anger, sure, but no interference,” Galtier stressed.
“What does this mean? A great desire to be successful. Luis is of course part of our technical staff. This is not a problem for me, because he does not interfere with the technical-tactical part. He’s just passionate,” Galtier said.
Finally, the trainer was also asked about the injury of Neymar, whose ankle doubled badly. The first reports in French are mostly positive. There is hope that he can make it to the Champions League return against Bayern on March 8. “He has a sprained ankle. It is still being investigated how serious it is,” Galtier said. “The same goes for Nuno Mendes’ knee injury, which doesn’t seem too serious.”
