Christophe Galtier believes Kylian Mbappé is no greater than Paris Saint-Germain. The coach of the Paris Millions formation is also happy with Neymar’s professional demeanour.
In recent months, there has been a lot to say about Mbappé and Neymar. Not only could there have been mutual hatred at the penalty spot, but the French star attacker would have pushed PSG management to move the Brazilian great last summer. It was one of many articles about Mbappé when he elected to stay in Paris rather than transfer to Real Madrid.
Christophe Galtier believes Kylian Mbappé is the ’embodiment’ of the PSG project
Galtier admits that Mbappé is the ’embodiment’ of the PSG project. “There is no question about it,” the French trainer remarked in an interview with RMC Sport. “However, just because he represents the initiative does not imply he is above the club. Kylian is on par with the other players. He is on the same level as Lionel Messi, who has had a stellar career and is often regarded as the greatest footballer of all time. And Kylian is comparable to Neymar.”
According to Galtier, Mbappé’s decision to stay with PSG despite the significant financial incentive was difficult. “Of course, he likes PSG, but he also had a fancy on Real Madrid,” Galtier explains. “He has decided to stay, which is beneficial to Ligue 1, PSG, the players, and me. He made a clear decision, and he deserves to be appreciated for it.”
Galtier also really respects Neymar. “The Neymar I know is a terrific professional who prepares, arrives early for training, and never misses a single training session.” Of course, the trainer was aware of the reports about the Brazilian’s opulent lifestyle. “I told him once I arrived that I was honoured to be his coach and that I had read a lot about him, but I wanted to make my own judgement.” Fortunately, I did!”
After a rough year, Neymar appears to be entirely back to normal this season. Galtier believes that various factors played a role in this. “There are a few things. He understands his role and the organisation surrounding him. Of course, the World Cup is a factor. And, when I assumed responsibility for the team with Luis Campos (technical advisor), I think we made it very plain to everyone: no one is above the team.”
