PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi speaks clearly when it comes to Kylian Mbappé. Under no circumstances may the Frenchman leave Paris on a free transfer. If Mbappé wants to stay, he must re-sign.
“We don’t want to let the best player in the world go for nothing”
Mbappé’s future was discussed at the presentation of trainer Luis Enrique. The rumors about the Frenchman are getting firmer, but there is no clarity yet. Our position is clear: we do not want him to leave on a free transfer in 2024. If Kylian wants to stay, so do we. But then he has to sign a new contract. We don’t want to let the best player in the world go for nothing. That is impossible,” says Al-Khelaïfi.
Spanish media have already leaked that Real Madrid wants to make a new attempt for Mbappé. It is unclear whether the club is prepared to put a transfer fee on the table now, or whether the Madrilenians will wait until next summer, when Mbappé is available on a free transfer.
Lens can almost double sales record with Openda
Staying in France, RC Lens holds gold with Loïs Openda. The club took over the Belgian from Club Brugge last year, but can quadruple his investment now that RB Leipzig is knocking on the door. Reportedly, the Germans have already made four bids for the striker.
Club Brugge thought it had done good business by selling Openda to Lens for almost twelve million euros after two rental periods at Vitesse. The French, however, take it a step further. After a great season from Openda, in which he was directly involved in 25 goals in Ligue 1, he is worth the many.
Foot Mercato from France reports that Leipzig wants to spend at least 43 million euros on Openda through a fourth bid. That amount can increase further through bonuses. Earlier it came out via Bild that Openda itself has already reached an agreement with Leipzig.
Should it come to a transfer, Lens will have a new club record. With 22.6 million euros, Cheick Doucouré is the most expensive sale of the French club. Lens has only recently started to really benefit from the bloated transfer market. The top ten most expensive sales include six players who left Lens before 2012.
