Anderlecht 2-3 Zulte Waregem: The changing of the guard has not averted the crisis at Anderlecht either. It goes from bad to worse, with the new trainer not ruling out the ultimate nightmare for Purple & White .
Brian Riemer made his entrance in Brussels at the beginning of December. With the Dane at the helm, performance has not improved. With a paltry harvest of four points in four league matches, the gaze must be directed mainly downwards, the fearful gaze. After the defeat against Ruud Vormer’s Zulte Waregem, the distance to the danger zone is only five points.
Realistic manager Brian Riemer admits relegation threat
Brian Riemer doesn’t beat around the bush. The dreaded R-word has been dropped. Because relegation of the top club of yesteryear is not excluded, the Danish trainer realizes. “I could answer no, but in football anything is possible. I personally don’t believe it will happen. If you look at our game against Zulte Waregem: the performance and the effort were okay, but the simple analysis is that individual mistakes kill us. If you want to win games in football, that shouldn’t happen. You can have the best tactics and run as much as you want… With such misses it’s all for nothing,” Brian Riemer admitted.
Brian Riemer admits embarrassment following the result
The duel with Zulte Waregem brought bitter disappointment to the Anderlecht coach. “I am ashamed. This result is unacceptable and I feel sorry for everyone involved in Anderlecht. Also with the fans. Losing at home like that. In recent games I felt that we had taken a few good steps forward, now we have taken two steps back again,” the Danish manager commented.
And so Anderlecht is working in a total crisis atmosphere towards the duel with last-kick Seraing. “There will be pressure, yes. But there is pressure in every game. We’ll keep evaluating it game by game and then see where we end up. As a coach I am here to win matches and bring Anderlecht back where it belongs. I’ll stay positive if we don’t kill ourselves every time,” Brian Brian Riemer concludes.
