Angel Correa was the man of the Man of the Match in Atletico Madrid-Rayo Vallecano on Sunday (the football news). The Brazilian international’s brace saw Atletico snap a four-game losing streak in La Liga at the expense of Rayo Vallecano.
Correa was actually playing out of position as a pure striker in the absence of Antoine Griezmann and Joao Felix. The latter two, both missed Atletico’s first game of 2022 due to their returning positive COVID-19 tests.
But even in their absence in the home team’s attack, Correa gave Atletico a 2-0 win by scoring two goals.
He scored the two crucial goals for Atletico Madrid in a victory where they dominated from start to finish.

After a nervy start to the game, Diego Simeone’s side warmed and went in front just before the half-hour mark.
Correa reacted quickest amongst all players, after Mario Hermoso’s shot was blocked, and rifled a shot home from close range.
From this point onwards, the result never seemed in doubt and Correa notched another from close range. This was a fine move which saw Thomas Lemar set Renan Lodi free on the left. And he left his striker with an easy task from six yards out.
Yannick Carrasco could have cut down this lead could have been in the closing stages but he hit the post.
Correa himself stopped short of a hat-trick due to a fine reaction block from Luca Zidane.
The win sees Atletico leapfrog their opponents into the fourth Champions League qualification berth.
