Real Madrid 1-0 Getafe: Real Madrid won against Getafe on Saturday evening with some difficulty. Marco Asensio made the difference, as a result of which the reigning champion jumped over Atlético again in the rankings.
Asensio makes the difference at Real Madrid
After the riveting battle with Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Champions League, coach Carlo Ancelotti clearly did not want to take any chances. He sent no fewer than eight other names into the field against Getafe: only Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois kept their place.
Eden Hazard, among others, once again got the chance from the kick-off, but the 32-year-old Belgian was again unable to break any pots. In 61 minutes he came to zero attempts on goal, zero dribbles and zero created chances. Hazard also sent only nineteen passes and eventually left the field visibly disappointed.
After an exceptionally dull hour of football, it was still 0-0 and so Ancelotti decided to bring a number of guns within the lines with Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Vinícius Júnior. Twenty minutes before time it was still hit. Asensio, already the most threatening on Real’s side, hit hard from about twenty meters: 1-0.
Vinícius also seemed to make it 2-0 a few minutes later, by searching the depth and finishing cleanly in the far corner, but his goal was disallowed for offside. Goalkeeper David Soría prevented a second goal from Asensio in the final phase by turning his falling header.
Camavinga was taken off due to a problem with his knee
It seemed to be a carefree evening for Real, but that changed five minutes before the end. Camavinga, one of the players who did start, got problems with his knee and indicated that he had to be substituted. With a pained face and a bag of ice against his knee, he took a seat on the reserve bench.
This is how Real did what it had to do. In the run-up to the all-important return against Manchester City next Wednesday. For Ancelotti and associates, it is to be hoped that Camavinga will also be there.
This was Real Madrid’s sixth one-goal victory this season. The defeat was also Getafe’s eleventh defeat by one goal. In the next game, Real Madrid will play against Valencia on Sunday, May 21. Getafe will receive Elche on Saturday, May 20.
