Arda Güler’s future lies with Real Madrid. The Athletic and AS, among others, are sure of that. Fenerbahçe’s eighteen-year-old top talent has rejected Barcelona.
Turkish top talent Güler prefers Real Madrid over Barcelona
Güler had a choice of clubs after his eye-catching breakthrough at Fenerbahçe. The young Turk stood out with his dribbles and smart passes. It is not for nothing that he has often been compared to Mesut Ozil.
Güler’s contract with Fenerbahçe includes an escape clause of 17.5 million euros. Real would pay a little more for him, to make the deal go as smoothly as possible. Attracting Güler fits in with Real Madrid’s transfer policy to quickly bring top players (in the making) to Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. After Vinícius Júnior (22), Rodrygo (22), Eduardo Camavinga (20), Aurélien Tchouameni (23) and Jude Bellingham (20), Güler becomes the next youngster to be brought in with high expectations.
Sources have revealed that Güler has turned down offers from Barcelona, Sevilla, AC Milan and Arsenal. Deco had travelled to Istanbul as the new technical director of Barcelona to reach an agreement, but Real’s future plans appealed more to the four-time international.
Andres Guardado succeeds Joaquín at Betis: “A huge honour”
Staying in Spain, Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini has appointed Andres Guardado as captain. The Mexican midfielder takes over the armband from Joaquín Sánchez, who ended his career this summer at the age of 41.
Guardado is on the eve of his seventh season at Betis. The 36-year-old Mexican was already one of the old-timers in Andalusia, but will rise one more place in the hierarchy next year. Guardado succeeds Joaquín as captain. “It is a huge honour to succeed someone like Joaquín. We know what he means to Betis,” the midfielder responded to Marca.
The role of Guardado is not completely unknown, because under Pellegrini he was already one of the reserve captains last season. The veteran announced that he would wear the captain’s armband with pride anyway. “You can call it luck or bad luck to take over Joaquín’s band,” he added.
Extension
For Guardado, his European adventure is not yet over. The 181-time international signed a new one-year contract with Betis this summer. He said, “This was what I wanted. I am happy with the confidence, especially that of the coach. It wasn’t difficult to come to an agreement and continue for another year.”
