Assaulted Ramsdale is disappointed with the way the derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal ended on Sunday. The 24-year-old Gunners goalkeeper was the victim of spectator misconduct.
Ramsdale celebrated his team’s victory in the lion’s den and had to pick up some of his gear at his goal shortly after the final whistle. That’s where it went wrong. A supporter stormed down into the stands and tried to kick the England international. The FA and Tottenham have already announced that they will take strong steps against the supporter.
Speaking to the BBC, Ramsdale said of the incident: “It is very unfortunate that this is happening. In the end, it’s just a football game. Players from both teams tried to help me out of there and luckily nothing dramatic happened in the end. This leaves a bitter aftertaste, but we will still enjoy the victory.”
The excellent goalkeeper Ramsdale was already the target of scorn during the game. He enjoyed the rivalry, until one of the home team’s supporters crossed the line. “The Spurs fans gave me a beating during the game and after the final whistle I did something the other way around. The supporters I turned to took it sportingly, but one fan tried to hit me from behind,” he concluded.
Gary Neville does not expect Arsenal to clinch the league
Meanwhile, former Manchester United captain Gary Neville does not expect Arsenal to clinch the Premier League title for the first time since 2004 this season. The Sky Sports analyst even thinks that ‘his’ United will find out The Gunners with manager Erik ten Hag.
After the victory over Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal is eight points ahead of pursuers Manchester City and in the Emirates Stadium they dream of the fourteenth national title in club history after nineteen years. Still, it won’t come that far, Neville expects. Arsenal will receive a visit from Manchester United on Sunday, fourth on nine points from the Londoners.
“No, I don’t think Arsenal will win the Premier League, but I also said in 2016 that Leicester would not win the title,” Neville said in his Sky Sports podcast. “I expect City to be champions again and United to finish second. Yes, I know I’m going to annoy a lot of Arsenal fans with this. But I’d rather Arsenal be champions than City. I would be really thrilled if they take the title. Arteta is doing great with Arsenal.”
“If we look at the Premier League, we have mainly seen City win in recent years, outside of Liverpool once. If Arsenal were to become champions, it would only be good for the league. There will be another difficult period for them, I don’t think they can maintain this level. Of course I’d like to see United finish first, but that won’t happen this season,” said Neville.
