After more than ten years, Atlético Madrid boss Diego Simeone does not believe that the synergy between him and the club has diminished. The Argentinian wants to atone for last week’s error at the Jan Breydel Stadium by beating Club Brugge on Wednesday.
After three games in the Champions League group stage, Atlético is positioned third in a group that also includes Club Brugge, FC Porto, and Bayer Leverkusen. Simeone is not concerned about his career should Atletico Madrid lose in the group stage and is hoping to rapidly turn the tide with Los Rojiblancos.
“Ups and downs are a part of life,” the Argentine coach who has been in charge of Atlético since December 2011 said during a press conference. “And I’m not leaving either. And I continue to think that I’m becoming much more confident. Someone recently inquired about my future employment prospects at other clubs. No, absolutely not, was my response,” Simeone, whose Madrilenians team won the national championship two years ago, added.
“When I picture that, my mind is preoccupied with a departure. But since I’m here, I still expect to be able to express my thoughts and feelings clearly to the club. Everybody is aware of how crucial the upcoming game is. Naturally, we had high expectations for the first half of the season, but Simeone, whose Atlético team is presently fourth in La Liga, said he could already see improvement.
Atlético Madrid boss Diego Simeone stood up for João Félix
At the press conference, Atlético Madrid boss Diego stood up for João Félix, who still hasn’t found the net this season. “What João Félix wouldn’t do well, I do even less well as a trainer. Apparently I’m not offering him enough to reach his full potential at the moment. João remains important for the club and for the team. But the fact that he doesn’t score naturally causes frustration for him.”
