The issue between Villarreal player Álex Baena and Federico Valverde has entered a new chapter. The 21-year-old Spaniard has responded to the statements from Valverde’s camp and was not at all happy with it.
Baena furious at Valverde: “Lies hurt more than blows”
On Saturday, emotions ran high during Real Madrid against Villarreal. In addition, Valverde would have dealt a slap in the face to his opponent Baena. Villarreal announced that Baena has filed a report against the Uruguayan. Valverde’s entourage told Marca that the incident is not an isolated incident. Baena is said to have kicked in an earlier game between Real Madrid and Villarreal and started talking about Valverde’s second child, who is yet to be born.
Baena has now responded to this in a statement: “Last Saturday I was attacked by a colleague at the end of the match against Real Madrid.” The midfielder confirms that he has reported to the police and is disappointed with the reaction from Valverde’s camp. “The attack is used to justify the aggression. There are lies that hurt more than blows,” the Spaniard added.
After Valverde’s story in the Spanish media, the situation has only gotten worse. According to Baena, “The harm inflicted on my family is irreparable and unjustifiable: threats, insults, and even private messages wishing my family dead.”
Xavi is not worried about Barcelona after second disappointment in a row
Staying in Spain, despite the second blow in a row for Barcelona, trainer Xavi is not worried yet. His team bit itself on Monday against fellow countryman Girona.
“No, I’m not worried,” Xavi told DAZN after the game. “I view it positively. We tried, we played a good game, had the chances to score and win against a great team. We only lacked luck to score at least one goal. A victory would have been deserved.”
Xavi has mixed feelings about the match. “We cannot be satisfied with a point at home. But we are still 13 points ahead with 10 games to go. Of course we could have been fifteen points ahead now, but we had of course signed for this margin a long time ago,” the manager added.
Barcelona had plenty of chances against Girona, but failed again and again in the completion. “If we had scored before the break, the game would have turned out very differently. But we lacked effectiveness today. We need to change the dynamic and put the focus on Getafe. Barcelona will take on the team from the Madrid suburb on Sunday,” he concludes.
