Thierry Henry is no longer in the picture as Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant coach at Paris Saint-Germain. The German coach remains the main candidate to succeed Christophe Galtier, but not with Henry at his side.
Henry no longer in the picture at PSG
L’Equipe reports this on Thursday. Henry was previously mentioned in the French media as a possible right-hand man of Nagelsmann, but the 45-year-old former international does not fit the profile in the eyes of the PSG club management: a trainer who knows the Paris dressing room inside out and is an expert on the League 1.
The fact that Henry, currently working as an analyst after his departure from the Belgian national team, is no longer in the picture has no consequences for the possible arrival of Nagelsmann. Le Parisien and L’Équipe write that negotiations with the German trainer’s entourage are continuing and that he is currently in pole position.
Nagelsmann in pole position
Earlier this year they faced each other in the Champions League. Now Julian Nagelsmann is the intended successor to Christophe Galtier at PSG.
The 35-year-old Nagelsmann may now have an edge over the other candidates Xabi Alonso and Luis Enrique, but according to Le Parisien he is not the absolute dream choice of PSG. The Parisian newspaper knows that Zinedine reapplied Zidane a few weeks ago for the job in the Parc des Princes, but that informal approach went unanswered.
And so PSG is now betting on Nagelsmann. Talks with the 35-year-old trainer, who was fired from Bayern Munich to everyone’s surprise in March, are said to have progressed to such an extent that the composition of the selection has been discussed. Nagelsmann was previously also in the picture at Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, but that did not lead to a collaboration.
Xavi surprised by Neymar rumours
It doesn’t look like we’ll see Neymar return to Barcelona this summer. At least, if we can believe the words of trainer Xavi.
In conversation with Jijantes FC, Xavi indicates that he is surprised by the rumours surrounding a return of the Brazilian. Who is out of contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar would have offered himself to Barcelona. Now that the deal with Lionel Messi has fallen through, but Xavi knows nothing about it.
“He’s not in our plans,” said Xavi. “I really like him as a friend, he’s a great player, but we have other priorities.”
Neymar, 31, previously played for Barcelona from 2013 to 2017. Xavi himself played at Camp Nou until 2015.
