Barcelona’s financial woes prevented them from keeping Lionel Messi during the summer transfer window. But they appear to have plans to source some finances to spend during the winter transfer window – via player sales. Barcelona might raise £41m from football transfers in January, which they may then use for inbound transfers (football news).
The Catalan giants, with Xavi as head coach now, have associated themselves with a number of players in recent days.
The club’s new manager has shown an especial interest, allegedly, in signing two new attackers.
Barcelona Might Raise £41m from Football Transfers in January
Barcelona’s transfer budget is far from healthy and hefty, but the La Liga club may yet generate £41 million still.
By selling Inaki Pena, Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti, and Philippe Coutinho during the winter window, Barcelona will budget their buyings.
Inaki Pena, who is rated at £2.7 million by Transfermarkt, is reportedly looking for fresh pastures in January. And a recent report stated that Barcelona might be willing to let him go.
In the meantime, Clement Lenglet has fallen down the centre-back pecking order this season, making just six La Liga games. In fact, Ronald Araujo, Oscar Mingueza, Gerard Pique, and Eric Garcia are all ahead of him for a starting spot.
The fact that Barcelona are well-stocked at the back might lead to their selling him at the start of 2022.
Also, there would undoubtedly be interest in the Frenchman, whom the Catalan club have valued at £16.2 million.
Samuel Umtiti, who could’ve move away from Camp Nou over the summer but ultimately stayed, is in a similar situation.
The £4.5m-rated Frenchman has yet to make a single appearance for the club this season.
Yet, Umititi is sure to pique outside interest if he became available for a bargain price. Already, rumour has it, Arsenal and Manchester United are both keeping an eye on the situation.
Phillipe Coutinho, on the other hand, also appears to be out of new head coach Xavi’s long-term plans.
Because Xavi prefers to play a 4-3-3 system with two speedy wingers, the Brazilian may have no clear role now.
The 29-year-old has made 11 appearances for the club this season but has only scored once. And as such, there has been much of talk about a January departure.
Transfermarkt have valued the Brazilian at £18 million, with Newcastle United being the favourite suitors in rumours in recent weeks.
