Manchester City’s head coach may have potentially paved the way for the Citizens’ winger Raheem Sterling to leave the club. After City welcomed £68m for football transfers for Sterling, Pep Guardiola said that joining Barcelona would appeal to any player. In stating this now, following persistent football news of Barca’s interest, has Guardiola finally responded to Barcelona’s interest in Sterling?
The advent of new Barcelona head coach Xavi in the Camp Nou dugout has sparked several transfer rumours in Catalonia. And Manchester City striker Raheem Sterling’s name is at the top of this list.
In reaction to this, reporters have approached Pep Guardiola about the rumours. They questioned the Manchester City coach on Monday at a charity event at the Sant Cugat del Valles golf club.
Has Guardiola Finally Responded to Barcelona’s Interest in Sterling?
Initially, according to Mundo Deportivo, Guardiola went ‘off on a tangent’. He claimed that City’s lack of striker options may force Sterling to stay.
But when interviewers pressed him for a response, he confessed that Barcelona has a real chance of acquiring their man.
“We have too much work to do it but if Barcelona is interested in any of our players, I’m convinced they can get them,” he said.
“Barcelona continues to be an attractive club, more than attractive.
“The city, the club, the history and this for the coaches, for the players always seduces a lot. If Barcelona is interested in one of our players, they will start the machinery, it is an ocean liner. Barcelona, in good and bad, can do what they want.”
